Description
Published by Hodder & Stoughton, August 1942, Reprint of First printing in June 1942, spine faded, No D/w, V.G. Fiction. Perhaps the scarcest work by Frank Smythe (1900-1949) and his only published work of fiction. “A ‘ripping yarn’ set in the Himalaya, involving a British scientist, his beautiful daughter and Nazi thugs.” (Neate). Smythe was a prolific author of almost 30 books; made the first ascents in 1927 and 1928, with T. Graham Brown, of Sentinelle Rouge and Route Major on the previously unclimbed Brenva face of Mont Blanc; led the first successful expedition to climb Kamet, at that time in 1931 the highest peak then climbed; discovered the Valley of Flowers in the Himalaya; and was a member of the Everest expeditions of 1933, 1936 and 1938.
