Published by Adventure’s Meaning Press, Nebraska, 1992, 1st US Edition, Insc, D/w (slight wear), Nr. Fine. Definitive biography of Royal Robbins, one of the great pioneer climbers of America, particularly in Yosemite. He pushed back the boundaries on the art of the possible, here well chronicled by Pat Ament, a close friend of Robbins. The book covers early days through business to his later brilliance as a kayaker, but the bulk of the content is reserved for the Yosemite climbing years, whether on Washington Column, Half Dome, Leaning Tower or El Cap itself. Ament also says much about the culture of the American and Yosemite climbing scene in those pioneer days. Illustrated by 119 black-and-white photographs, many previously unpublished, and cartoons by Sheridan Andersen. Shortlisted for the 1993 Boardman Tasker Award.
