Account of the 1974 international climbing meet in the Pamirs, where the main peaks were Lenin (23,406 feet) and Communism (24,590 feet). The Soviet Mountaineering Federation assembled 160 climbers from 12 countries to climb in an area which had only previously been climbed in by Russians. The climbers were hampered by fierce storms, avalanches and then earthquakes, resulting in the death of 15 climbers. From the library of Geoff Milburn.
