Description
Published by Editions de Fontainemore, Swiss National Toursit Office, 1976, 1st UK Edition, D/w, Fine. Story of the hotel pioneers who, in the mid nineteenth century, realised that travel in Switzerland was becoming as much for pleasure as it had been for business previously, and hence developed some of the country’s most prestigious hotels. Many of these were in the main cities and spa towns, but many were also in the mountain resorts as these developed and grew. Some direct references to mountaineering, but mainly interesting social history.
