The first Women’s Himalayan Expedition in 1955, consisting of Jackson and Stark (the authors) and Evelyn Camrass, all members of the Ladies Scottish Climbing Club, set out to explore the remote Jugal Himal on the Nepal-Tibet border. They aimed to explore and map the area, but also made the first ascent of the 22,000 foot Gyalgen Peak (which they named after their chief Sherpa).
