Shiro Shirahata (1933-2019) was a Japanese photographer who devoted his entire adult life to photographing the major mountains of the world, with the Shiro Shirahata Prize in Japan being the most prestigious Japanese award for mountain photography. His other major books include Nepal Himalaya, The Karakoram: Mountains of Pakistan and The Rocky Mountains. This large-format full colour volume on The Alps provides 104 superb photographs, divided into Mont Blanc Massif, Valais, Bernese Oberland, Bernina Alps and Dolomites, all full page and with 63 being double-page spreads. There is a sketch map and detailed notes on all of the photographs in a section at the end of the volume. The quality of both the photographs and the reproduction is outstanding.
