Published by A & C Black, London, 1910, Insc, original pictorial boards, a little dull and worn, V.G.  Sir William Martin Conway (1856-1937) was an English art critic, politician, cartographer and mountaineer, who made expeditions to Spitsbergen, the Andes and the Karakoram Himalayas, as well as many forays to the European Alps.  First published in 1895 as The Alps from End to End, this volume was “published in response to many requests for a cheaper issue”.  Conway authored several mountaineering and exploration books, including Climbing and Explorations in the Karakoram-Himalayas (1894), The First Crossing of Spitsbergen (1897), The Bolivian Andes (1901), Aconcagua and Tierra Del Fuego (1902), and No Man’s Land: A History of Spitsbergen (1906).  He was also a member of the Alpine Club and its President from 1902 to 1904.
