Sir William Martin Conway (1856-1937) was an English art critic, politician, cartographer and mountaineer, who made expeditions to Spitsbergen, the Andes and the Karakoram Himalayas, as well as many forays to the European Alps. This volume includes his party’s famous high level traverse of the Alps in 1894 from Monte Viso to the Gross Glockner. He authored several mountaineering and exploration books, including Climbing and Explorations in the Karakoram-Himalayas (1894), The First Crossing of Spitsbergen (1897), The Bolivian Andes (1901), Aconcagua and Tierra Del Fuego (1902), and No Man’s Land: A History of Spitsbergen (1906). He was also a member of the Alpine Club and its President from 1902 to 1904.
