Published by Jonathan Cape, London, 2002, 1st Edition, D/w (with ‘Signed Copy’ sticker), Fine.   Signed by the author on the title page.   Joe Simpson is a British mountaineer, author and motivational speaker.  He is famous for the epic he had on Siula Grande in the Peruvian Andes with his climbing partner Simon Yates, which resulted in his best-selling book Touching the Void (1988), which went on to win The Boardman Tasker Award for Mountain Literature in 1988 and the NCR Award in 1989.  This volume follows more extreme experiences, including an avalanche in Bolivia, ice-climbing in the Alps and Colorado, paragliding in Spain, and Simpson’s final confrontation with the Eiger – he made 6 unsuccessful attempts to climb the North Face.  “The subject of his new book is the siren song of fear and his struggle to come to terms with it”, particularly following the deaths of close friends climbing.  As always, very well written in Simpson’s vivid, anecdotal style.
