Description
Published by Macmillan, 2001, 1st UK Edition, D/w, Nr.Fine. Boukreev and DeWalt’s account of the May 1996 Everest disaster, at least partly in response to criticisms of Boukreev in Jon Krakauer’s Into Thin Air. Boukreev was one of the world’s foremost high-altitude mountaineers, having summited 8000 metre peaks 21 times, was recognised by the American Alpine Club for his heroic actions in May 1996, but was killed in an avalanche in 1997 attempting a winter ascent of Annapurna. DeWalt, an investigative journalist, was not on Everest, but interviewed the climbers and helps tie together Boukreev’s account.
