Fisher Unwin, London, 1899, 1st Edition, some foxing stains endpapers, a few small marks boards, V.G.   Ludwig Norman-Neruda (1864-1898) was an English mountaineer and painter who carried out several first ascents in the Bernina group and in the Valais Alps, both with and without a guide, the latter most unusual in the 1890s.  He climbed with his friend and guide Christian Klucker on several of his new routes.  Many of his climbs are still highly regarded today.  His wife, May Norman-Neruda, also a climber, prepared his manuscripts for this publication a year after he tragically died following a fall while climbing on the Punta delle Cinque Dita in the Sassolungo Group in South Tyrol, an area with which he was very familiar.
