The Swiss Mount Everest / Lhotse Expedition of 1956 not only made two successful ascents of Everest, but also made the first ascent of the main summit of Lhotse, at 8,516 metres, the fourth highest mountain in the world. Ernst Reiss and Fritz Luchsinger summited on 18th May 1956.
