Published by Edward Arnold, London, 1925, 1st UK Edition, small professional repairs to contents page and to folding map at the end of the volume, Rebound in full leather with gilt embossed front cover and spine plus marbled endpapers, A Fine Copy.    Edward Norton (1884-1954) was a British army officer and mountaineer who took part in the British Everest Expeditions of 1922 and 1924.  In 1924,  he took over leadership of the Expedition at an early stage when the original leader, Charles Bruce, was taken ill.  In 1924, Norton also achieved a new height record of 8,570 metres (28,120 ft) climbing without supplementary oxygen, a record not surpassed until the Swiss Expedition of 1952.  This volume is the official account of the 1924 Expedition on which George Mallory and ‘Sandy’ Irvine disappeared, creating a debate as to whether they made the summit or not, a debate which continues to this day, though it is unlikely ever to be wholly resolved.
