Frank Smythe was an English mountaineer, prolific author, photographer and botanist. This is his personal account of his involvement in the unsuccessful 1930 International Expedition to Kangchenjunga, the world’s third highest mountain at 8,586 metres, led by the German/Swiss mountaineer Professor Gunther Dyhrenfurth and which also included German Uli Wieland and Austrian Erwin Schneider. The expedition failed on its main objective due to poor weather and snow conditions, but successfully climbed Jonsong Peak (7,462 metres) and other peaks in the Eastern Himalayas.
