Description
Published by Hurst and Blackett, 1955, 1st UK Edition, No D/w, cloth a little dull, V.G. Prolific author (over 160 books published for adults and children) and climber Showell Styles (1908-2005) tells the story of a valiant attempt on the unclimbed Baudha (6,672 metres) in 1954 in the Manaslu district of Nepal by a small four man team including Styles as the driving force. Styles had chosen the objective from a photograph in Bill Tilman’s Nepal Himalaya and, following a visit to Tilman who provided equipment lists, maps and the opinion that they ‘might do worse than have a crack at climbing Baudha’, decided to go ahead and try it. In the end the weather and the time available to them meant they were unsuccessful.
