Account of the 1932 German American Himalayan Expedition to Nanga Parbat led by Willy Merkl, which consisted of eight climbers, including the American Rand Herron and Fritz Weissner, who became an American citizen the following year. The first attempt since Mummery’s in the 1890s, they reached over 7000 metres, a very creditable effort at thew time. Elizabeth Knowlton, mountaineer and writer, accompanied the expedition and spent over a month on the mountain at over 20,000 feet, reporting weekly on the progress of the team to major newspapers in Europe and the U.S..
