A photo portrait of Nepal and the successful 1953 British Everest Expedition, one of the first books to be produced about the Expedition. A large-format volume of 43 full-colour photographs, each with a full-page description, mostly taken by Gregory who was the official photographer of the Expedition, but also including shots by Hillary, Lowe, Band and Hunt, including the classic summit shot taken by Hillary. They are reproduced with the authority of the Joint Himalayan Committee of the Royal Geographical Society and the Alpine Club. This variant has the more elaborate binding with the ‘Chart of the Ascent of Everest’ as the rear endpaper.
