Published by John Murray, London, 1964, 1st UK Edition, D/w (slight fading of spine, a few nicks), Nr.Fine.   The first anthropological study of the Sherpas, the tribe of hillmen who figure so prominently in the history of Himalayan mountaineering, by Professor Haimendorf, who was the professor of Asian Anthropology at London University.  Between 1953 and 1962, Haimendorf spent twenty five months in the Buddhist highlands of Nepal, and his description of the social aspects of Buddhist ritual and monastic institutions form an important addition to knowledge of Tibetan Buddhism.
