(who was a member of Lord Palmerston’s Government of 1859-65), was educated at Eton and Cambridge, and late in life penned these reminiscences of travel in mountain areas, mainly in the 1880s, 1890s and early years of the twentieth century, with chapters on Scotland, Norway, The Pyrenees, Sardinia, Kashmir, The Caucasus, Austria, Transylvania, Newfoundland and The Rockies.
