Published by Hutchinson, 1964, 1st Edition, D/w (slight wear edges), Nr. Fine. In 1962, with the first Tibetan passport issued by Peking, the Gelders spent 5 weeks in Tibet with the freedom to travel and photograph where and what they wanted, resulting in this fascinating early picture of the new Tibet post the Chinese invasion of 1951 and the uprising of 1959. They achieved this freedom because Stuart Gelder was a journalist for the News Chronicle who worked in India and China, getting to know the old and new leaders of China. He and his wife had previously travelled widely and photographed in China, resulting in their first book, Long March to Freedom.
