Published by Museum Press, London, 1955, 1st UK Edition, D/w (slight wear edges, slight marks, in protective sleeve), V.G. Guido Magnone (1917-2012) was a french mountaineer and sculptor. His mountaineering career saw him make numerous first ascents, including the West Face of the Petit Dru (the subject of this book) in 1952 and, later in the same year, the first ascent of Fitzroy in Patagonia with Lionel Terray. Also in 1952 he made the eighth ascent of the North Face of the Eiger in a large group which included Hermann Buhl and Gaston Rebuffat. In 1955 he summited with the French team that made the first ascent of Makalu and, in 1956, he made the second ascent of the Muztagh Tower in the Karakorum (just five days after the successful first ascent by the British team of Brown, McNaught-Davis, Hartog and Patey).
