The monochrome illustrations for this large-format volume come from the 6,000 glass slides discovered by Roland Robbins which belonged to Herbert Wendell Gleason, one of the great pioneering American photographers. The volume covers the National Parks of Grand Canyon, Yosemite, Kings Canyon, Yellowstone, Grand Teton, Zion, Bryce Canyon, Glacier, Mount Rainier, as well as the John Muir Trail and British Columbia.
