Fine.   Brilliantly written and dramatic account of the disaster that struck Simpson and his climbing partner Simon Yates following their successful ascent of a new route on the West Face of the 21,000 foot Siula Grande in the Peruvian Andes in 1985. On the descent, disaster struck and Simon was forced to cut the rope between him and Joe – Simon wrestled with the guilt of having killed his friend and partner, but 3 days later Joe crawled into Base Camp having miraculously survived.  A true story of friendship and survival, and the Winner of the Boardman Tasker Award for Mountain Literature in 1988.
