Published by Country Life, London, 1957, 1st UK Edition, D/w (nicks and wear edges), Quarto size, slight staining to boards, D/w: Good, Book: V.G.    William Arthur Poucher (1891-1988), known as Walter, was one of the leading British mountain photographers and guidebook writers during the 1940s and 1950s, although in his day job he was a leading research chemist, specialising in the chemistry of perfumes, cosmetics and soaps. He personally explored and photographed all the routes he describes in his famous mountain guides, and was an accomplished and skilled photographer who was awarded Honorary Fellowship of the Royal Photographic Society in 1975.  This volume on the West Country (covering the coasts of Devon and Cornwall and the uplands of Dartmoor) was the last book by Poucher and is illustrated by 86 of the author’s black-and-white photographs.
