Description

Published by Boulder Edition, Stuttgart, 1994, 1st English Edition, Pictorial Boards, No D/w (none issued), Fine.   Wolfgang Güllich (1960-1992) was one of the best rock and sport climbers of his generation  and one of the most influential.  Throughout the 1980’s and until his tragic death from injuries sustained in a car crash in August 1992, he repeatedly set new standards, ultimately introducing grade XI to international climbing.  Probably best known for free soloing the amazing roof of Separate Reality (7a) in 1986 and for establishing Action Directe (9a) in 1991.  He made his mark in all four corners of the world and introduced hard free climbing to Patagonia and the Karakoram.  This is a biography, a photographic celebration of a life and a tribute from a friend.
