Published by Elek Books London, 1955, 1st UK Edition, D/w, Fine. The exciting story of the first ascent of K2, regarded as the hardest of the 8,000 metre peaks, by the Italian team in 1954. The team put Achille Compagnoni and Lino Lacedelli on the summit after an epic assault which included their 500 porters deserting and the death of Mario Puchaz from pneumonia. This expedition followed three unsuccessful attempts by American expeditions, the most recent being the year before in 1953.
