Description
Published by Airlife Publishing, Shrewsbury, 1988, UK Publication (1st Published 1908 in Antarctica), D/w, Fine. Ernest Shackleton’s Nimrod Expedition to the Antarctic (1907-09) saw the first ascent of Mt Erebus, the location of the South Magnetic Pole, and travel to within 100 miles of the South Pole. It also saw the production – writing, designing, illustrating and binding – of less than 100 copies of a book detailing the Expedition. With introductory notes, this is a reproduction of that book produced in the depths of an Antarctic winter. It is based on the copy, known as the ‘Julienne’ edition, now located in the Alexander Turnbull Library in Wellington, New Zealand.
