Published by John W Parker, London, 1850, 1st Edition, original decorative cloth, all edges gilt, Insc, some wear at spine junctions but sound copy, Good.   Charles Richard Weld (1813-1869) was an English writer, probably best known for his A History of the Royal Society, published in 2 volumes in 1848.  This volume is the first of his series of Vacation Tours, which also included The Pyrenees West and East (1859) and Two Months in the Highlands Orcadia and Skye (1860), amongst others.  Weld was also Sir John Franklin’s main assistant in the organisation of his Arctic explorations, and was an authority on polar matters.  In 1850, he issued a lecture on Arctic Expeditions and this was followed by pamphlets on the search for Franklin during 1851.
