Description
Published by Faber and Faber, London, 1965, 1st UK Edition, Insc, D/w (some marks and spine faded), V.G. Prolific author (over 160 books published for adults and children) and climber Showell Styles (1908-2005) here produces the first volume of his reminiscences from over forty years of mountaineering. Both this volume and the second volume of his reminiscences, Rock and Rope, published two years later, are aimed at the average climber and mountaineer. His mountaineering journey progressed from classic British rock routes, particularly in North Wales, to climbs in Palestine and Malta, to Norway and The Alps, and to the Himalaya and The Arctic. His mountaineering philosophy was one of enjoyment being more important than achievement and this is well reflected in his writings.
