Published by Dennis Dobson, London, 1952, 1st UK Edition, No D/w, cloth a little dull, V.G.   From the library of Eric Byne and signed by him on the front endpaper.  Eric Byne was a prominent climber from the 1930s onwards, guide book editor and joint author, with Geoff Sutton, of High Peak, a classic history of climbing in the Peak District published in 1966.  This volume is an anthology of British mountaineering literature and the first to be devoted entirely to climbing in Britain, consisting of 54 extracts from climbing books and journals, with authors including John Tyndall, W.P. Haskett-Smith, Norman Collie, Owen Glynne Jones, Aleister Crowley, G. Winthrop Young, George Abraham, Dorothy Pilley, Jack Longland, Bill Murray, Frank Smythe, ‘Whipplesnaith’, Menlove Edwards and many more.
