Palmer (1877-1954) was a prolific English author and travel writer, best known for his books about the Lake District, Wales and Scotland. Born in Kendal, Cumbria and spending his formative years in the region before building a career as a journalist and author, he was also a dedicated fell-walker and naturalist. His other works include Lake-Country Rambles (1902), The English Lakes (1908), The Complete Hillwalker, Rock-Climber and Cave Explorer (1934) and Odd Corners in Derbyshire (1940).
