Description
Published by Faber and Faber, London, 1967, 1st UK Edition, Insc, top corner of front endpaper and half-title clipped, D/w, Nr. Fine. Prolific author (over 160 books published for adults and children) and climber Showell Styles (1908-2005) aims this and his previous volume of reminiscences, Blue Remembered Hills, at average climbers whom he refers to as Rabbits, as opposed to the Tigers. Over his forty years of mountaineering, he progressed from classic British rock routes, particularly in North Wales, to climbs in Palestine and Malta, to Norway and The Alps, and to the Himalaya and The Arctic. His mountaineering philosophy is one of enjoyment being more important than achievement and this is well reflected in his writings.
