Description
Published by E.J. Morten Publishers, Manchester, 1978, Facsimile reprint of the 1900 Second Edition, D/w, Nr. Fine. Owen Glynne Jones (1867-1899) was a Welsh rock-climber and mountaineer who was killed on the Dent Blanche. He produced this volume, first published in 1897, which became the first volume of the classic Jones-Abraham trilogy, being followed by Rock-Climbing in North Wales (1906) by George D Abraham (1872-1965) and Rock-Climbing in Skye (1908) by Ashley P. Abraham. O.G. Jones and the Abraham brothers did much to develop and popularise rock-climbing in the Lake District, North Wales and other parts of the British Isles. The second edition, of which this is a facsimile reprint, is generally regarded as the best, providing both significant updates from the first edition and including the substantive Memoir of Jones written by W.M. Crook. With 31 full-page collotype illustrations, nine outline plates of the chief routes and an appendix by George and Ashley Abraham.
