Frank Smythe (1900-1949) was an English mountaineer, prolific author, photographer and botanist. He is best known for new routes on the Brenva Face of Mont Blanc, his first ascent of Kamet (7,756 metres) in 1931 and for taking part in three Everest Expeditions in the 1930’s. This quarto volume is one of a series of photographic books from Smythe, published by A & C Black, with 48 monochrome plates and 16 colour plates from photographs by the author. This is his first book on the Rocky Mountains of Canada, where he trained British and American troops in snow and mountain warfare. Each of the plates have detailed captions.
