Description

Published by George Philip & Son, London, 1895, 1st Thus, some light foxing, with black-and-white illustrations and 8 folding maps (showing the Lakes and their cross-sections), V.G.   Hugh Robert Mill (1861-1950) was a British geographer and meteorologist who was influential in the reform of geography teaching and the development of meteorology as a science.  He also became the foremost Antarctic historian of the “Heroic Age”, guiding explorers such as Scott and Shackleton and, later, writing the definitive, authorised biography The Life of Ernest Shackleton (1923).  His own autobiography was published posthumously in 1951.  This volume, though not climbing related, may well interest Lake District aficionados!
