Description

Published by Diadem Books / The Mountaineers, 1993, 1st UK Edition, D/w, Fine.  A stunning large-format coffee-table volume illustrated by superb colour photography, a must for anyone interested in climbing in the Alps. Each mountain has a chapter, highlighting history, the routes, and information on huts and valley bases.  The idea of climbing all the 4000-metre peaks was originally proposed by the Austrian climber Karl Blodig, who became the first to complete the feat, publishing his classic Die Viertausender der Alpen which inspired generations of continental climbers.  This volume is effectively a new edition of that classic, edited by Dumler and illustrated by the photography of Burkhardt, but adapted for English-speaking climbers, including the addition of a wealth of new material and over 150 action photographs contributed by prominent British alpinists and Richard Goedeke, the author of the guidebook The Alpine 4000m Peaks by the Classic Routes.
