Published by The Wellfleet Press, New Jersey, 1988, 2nd US Edition (1st published in 1981), D/w, Fine.   Bonavia and Bartlett were amongst the first westerners to visit Tibet since 1949 and, after some 30 years and many changes under Chinese control, their photo-essay was able to capture the essence of what remained of Tibet’s former splendour.  Large landscape format with 94 brilliant colour photographs by Magnus Bartlett presenting aspects of day-to-day life in Tibet, along with architectural wonders and superb panoramic landscapes, with David Bonavia’s introductory essay evoking the atmosphere and mystery of Tibet.
