Published by Arbor House, New York, 1983, 1st US Edition, D/w, Fine. Setting out from Greenwich England in September 1979, The Transglobe Expedition was the first expedition to make a circumpolar navigation, traveling the world ‘vertically’ traversing both of the poles using only surface transport. Ranulph Fiennes and Charles Burton arrived at the South Pole in December 1980, then reached the North Pole in April 1982 before arriving back in Greenwich in August 1982, some three years after setting out and after travelling 52,000 miles. Oliver Shepard joined them for the Antarctic leg of the expedition.
