Published by Akreative, 2012, 1st Edition Softback, Fine. Karen Darke was a keen runner and mountaineer when, in 1992 at the age of 21, she was paralysed from the chest down in a rock climbing accident on a Scottish sea cliff. Determined not to let her condition get the better of her, within three years she was hand-biking 1200 miles over the Himalaya, sea kayaking a 1200 mile stretch of the Canada-Alaska coastline, the Japanese archipelago by hand-bike, crossing Greenland by sit-ski and climbing El Capitan in Yosemite. She is also a highly successful British Paralympic Cyclist, having competed in both the 2012 and 2016 Paralympics, taking home Gold in the Women’s Time Trial in 2016. A fascinating and absorbing, raw funny and honest view of just what is possible for someone who could feel or move nothing below their chest.
